Now do you see why I have so much trouble winding yarn into balls?
Isn't she sweet?

After a VERY long day of just duty yesterday I came back to the office about 4 p.m. to find this big box of goodies that included the most beautiful Manos del Uruguay Yarn - something I have never bought! There were also some Hello Kitty stickers that were the cutest thing! The other contents included a really cool needle that has a bent end (how easy to see!) some cool stuff to make my feet beautiful (good luck!!) and some mints - one of them has "Hope" on it - perfect to take to M.D. Anderson - dont'cha think????
Thanks secret pal - you made my day MUCH BETTER!!!!
P.S. Please don't look too much at my messy desk!!

How about something a little more cheerful for a change?
These flowers were beside an orchard we went to this weekend outside of Fredricksburg. We picked 4 pounds of blackberries and bought a half a bushel of peaches.
A biospy has been planned and possibly a visit to Loma Linda California where they have a Proton Radiation machine - one of only two in the US.
Well, her own Dr. at M.D. Anderson was not so depressing - he told her he was not going to give up and he knew she was not going to give up either. He will be coming up with some kind of plan later in the week. She has informed everyone that she is not going to spend the entire time she has left feeling like shit - she's already gone through chemo once, and knows how much fun it is.
But I'm not sure if she has any idea how much time they're talking about - I don't know if she wants to know, and I'm not sure if I would want to know either.
And yes, I am actually knitting. I am thinking of taking the Mason-Dixon State Fair Challenge for the State Fair of Texas. (I am pretty sure my husband would be shocked to learn there are other things going on at the State Fair of Texas besides the OU-Texas game!) The only category that really appeals to me is the "No-Pattern" one......I bought some yarn at Hill Country Weavers this weekend to start a log cabin blanket. And then I am going to work on a few more bowls and see if I can find some yarn that felts really well and see how well I can make it stand up. The last bowl I made ended up looking more like a vase - which is, uh, what I had intended all along. Right?
I don't know who came up with the stupid idea of me getting off of my seizure medicine....see, that means absolutely no alcohol. Not a drop. It probably wouldn't even be wise for me to smell a margarita right now. And that just totally sucks, but here's what sucks even more:
My mom was diagnosed with lung cancer in October of 2003. They did surgery, she went through chemo, was pronounced "A-OK" at M.D. Anderson right here in Houston. (It's not a coincidence that M.D.Anderson is here in Houston - we have the biggest petrochemical refinery in the world right where I live)
This week they decided she's not A-OK after all.
In fact, they told her the cancer was back and there wasn't anything they could do this time.
THAT SUCKS.
Where do I begin, to tell the story of a ....wait...any of you out there that have music running through your head right about now: Please, Join me in feeling old.
Lets see: Secret Pal 5; Boybands; Thunder, Hail & Lightning; A few Dr's Appts, My first trip to Austin WITHOUT going to the LYS (See, I lived through it) and, oh yes, my first Porn Spam!
Last week I got news of my Secret Pal(s) - that was lots of fun and I guess sooner or later I'm going to have to come clean on my blog to my husband - I don't think he knows what a blog is but he doesn't know I have one. I haven't really been keeping it a secret but I still feel kind of funny about it. Anyone out there know what I mean? Anyway, he's going to want to know why I'm buying all of these goodies.
Anyone ever heard of a band called Steeltrain? They are from the New York area but have been touring all over - I know because college girl has this "thing" about them. She has seen them many times and travelled great distances to do so. She has followed them around this state for days and somehow made friends with them. Last week they played in Austin so OF COURSE she had to be there - even if it DID mean driving up by herself and staying at the house alone. Several hours after the concert they discovered they had nowhere to stay for the night. Gee whiz, it's lucky we have this extra house so my 19 year old daughter can spend the night with 5 men. Evidently they were all perfect gentlemen and even got up and made their beds. The next night they played in Houston and we got to actually MEET THEM! I'm too old to hang out in smoky clubs until 11 pm to watch a bunch of kids play their guitars - but in this case I made an exception. I told them I thought it would have been funny if she had made a shirt to wear that night that said "I slept with the band last night" - she didn't think that was funny. I don't know why...?
Anyway, we went on up and checked on the house (and washed all the sheets!) spent the weekend resting and on Sunday afternoon got a call that the band was making their way back through Texas and needed a place to stay again that night. Oh good, our chance to get them to sign the refrigerator so we can sell it on eBay after they win their first Grammy. Unfortunately - or fortunately...? - the horrible weather that evening convinced them to stay in San Antonio instead.
And husband has been dealing with a pinched nerve in his neck for about 3 weeks now - which means we have bee to the Dr's office twice and to a physical therapist 3 times - and my fear of him going to the Dr. has resurfaced in a BIG way.
Mostly I feel like I am filled with a big dark cloud.
Sometimes there is a storm of tears at the end - sometimes there is thunder and lightning to go along with it - and yesterday was more like a tornado. I don't think there is enough pranayama in the universe to get me through it, but I'm trying. And next week we get to go to the cardiologist. yippeeee. That's always fun.
